Camera Accessories

My camera shipped this morning (arrival scheduled for a week from today, fingers crossed!) and now I have accessories on my mind. First and foremost is a bag to tote the thing around in.

I'd prefer an old-timey canvas messenger (army surplus, anyone?) but most of all, I want it to not look like a camera bag: no logos, not black. Ideally it'll be a regular bag that happens to be reasonably waterproof, padded, and sectioned so I can stow my gear and wallet in. I like this red one that's styled like a bowler, and it's only 24.95, which is totally doable.

Next is a strap, but not a neoprene be-logoed one. I mentioned here my love of necktie, retro-ey camera straps, and still haven't found the perfect polyester overly patterned tie. So I turned again to etsy, and there's a veritable smörgåsbord of delightful ones. (under consideration: 1, 2, and 3) I'll still probably end up making one in desperation from my own fabric stash.

Eventually I'll want a tripod, small fortune in new lenses, and remote but those two things will hold me in the meantime.

  1. Oh, dear. Do you know it never occurred to me to get a different bag/strap than what came with my camera? You have opened my eyes... and my wallet. I like that bowling bag, but I think I'd like something that goes over the shoulder.

I don't think tripods are too pricey. I got mine as a bday gift, but I saw one in the store for $20, and that was a special photo store, so you can probably get them cheaper. I really want a gorilla pod - but I have no idea what I'd use it for. I just think it looks cool.

  2. That bag is sooo cute!! I wish I could put a cute strap on our camera, but alas, since John is the one who actually uses it. I don't think he'll be thrilled to wear something so cute. :( I'll live vicariously through you. :)
