We used to sell vases similar to this (at CB2, for a steal at $3.95) that were the perfect bud vase. You can usually squeeze in a single gerber daisy, some loops of grass, and curly willow twigs for an easy and modern arrangement in a snap. Sometime should pick myself up a handful of these (the tall ones, only $5) to have on hand for just that sort of occasion.
