The Original Powder Fresh

Or "Another bout of possible TMI"

Just made a conveniently one bar sized batch of home made deodorant after extensive internet research and am prepared to love it. The recipe is from angry chicken, and I read about a billion glowing reviews about it, so I figured I'd run with that before tinkering too deeply with formulating my own solid bar. I'm so excited for my armpits to smell like lavender and tea tree. I will of course keep you updated on how it goes. It was crazy simple and fast to make and is reported to have a nice powder layer and consistency. (I borrowed the shea and cocoa butters from my soap making mother. All the other ingredients I had.)

*A word on natural deodorants.* You still sweat. I've found however, while using commercially available hippie deodorizing products, I sweat less, smell better, and I'm not as hot. (which is weird. Like the aluminum in traditional antiperspirants is clogging my pores and keeping the heat in?) Besides, my razor stays sharp longer, because it doesn't scrape through the remaining layer of artificial goo left behind and your white shirts don't need replacing every six months.

  1. this scares me.
because i'm a sweaty italian girl.

    but i'm curious.

  2. I have been meaning to try that! Please do keep us updated. The only reason I haven't done it yet is cause I hate buying things and I'd have to buy basically all of the ingredients. :(

I'm also very intrigued with the baking soda and vinegar rinse she does. I'd love to not buy shampoo, especially cause I haven't found a natural-enough one that works or isn't insanely expensive or a pain to get. Etc.

  3. Oh, we need to know about this. Alexa inherited her dad's allergy to deodorants and we have to buy crazy cream stuff for them.

  4. Never occurred to me it was better for my shirts but I think you're right! I'm currently rocking Tom's honeysuckle, which I'm reasonably happy with...

I credit my hippie-esque husband with begging me to go natural. He said he'd be willing to change my diapers if I got Alzheimer's, but he'd prefer not to....
