Kilim

A kilim is a flat woven rug. Mine (the only picture I could find of it, in our last apartment) was one of the better surprises of my life when it showed up unexpectedly in Alaska, courtesy of my army friend stationed at the time in Afghanistan. It's one thing to get mail, it's entirely another to get big, surprise mail, in Alaska. From Afghanistan.

Were my husband and I not trying to reconcile two decorating aesthetics (cluttered hippie vs. masculine modern) this rug would be making more of a daily statement in my life. At this very moment, it's warming up the terrifying corner of the basement that is my laundry room, and happens to have kelly green walls that pull the green out of this rug nicely.
